So earlier I described an outing to Muriwai, where there were gannets! Here are some photos!! Also, its been announced that there's less than a month until the next Doctor Who episode. Giggity Giggity!!
Hey,
So I haven't been posting recently. Sorry about that. Life is a bit tough, and passing by really quickly. Anyway, something cool happened today. I went to Muriwai! I think I may have posted about it before on this blog, I can't remember. It was a good time and it has added to my pile of good things, so I shall describe it! I went with two people. One is one of my closest and bestest friends. She's really incredible. The other is another close friend, who has just arrived back in New Zealand after spending two years in Canada. Canada is an odd place, with bears, maple syrup and the occasional Sasquatch. The car ride to Muriwai was nice. It was great to hear about the adventures of Canada Boy, with all his experiences mountain climbing and aurora hunting. And Incredible Girl had great stories to tell too about finishing her studies. Once we arrived we checked out the gannet colony. They're a migratory bird, which spends a lot of its life in Australia (BOOOOO!!!) before returning to New Zealand to breed. There's a couple of spots on the cliff that they sit, as well as off the coast on a stack of land. Some of them had their little baby gannets. So cute!! And a couple of them were close to the viewing platform, so it provided a splendid view. Captain Canada has a great camera with a super long zoom lens, so he got good photographs of gannets far away too. Afterwards we checked out the beach. My favourite part was underneath where the gannets sat. A tunnel had formed between two sides of the cliff, and water flowed through it. It was fun going in, then being hit by waves. It was wet, but really enjoyable. I like having fun. All in all it was a fantastic day with some stupendous people :) Here's a really cool bird I saw last month. Its a kereru!! Also, one of my friends has introduced me to playing magic: the gathering. my deck is poor compared to others, but its a mono green stompy, and i like it
Israel Folau is a poo-poo head. Please ignore his homophobic posts. Please do not donate to him. Please do not accept his hate speech.
Chur :) So over the last couple of years I've only met Barrowman (see previous blog post), but I have been to some sciencey shows. Among them were Brian Cox, who appeared in the Power of Three, and Richard Dawkins, who cameoed in The Stolen Earth. At their talks they were shlling signed pieces of memorabilia (Dawkins one of his books; Cox the programme of his talk. Click on their name to go to the page with their autograph. Uploading these autographs has reminded me that I haven't uploaded all the signatures in my Doctor Who collection, so hopefully I'll upload the rest soon.
Also, here's a cool leopard slug i saw last week!! : So there was almost two years in between posts on here. A lot of things happened in that time. In terms of Doctor Who things, I only got to meet one Doctor Who star during those two years. Sad face :'(. But it was JOHN BARROWMAN!!! Happy face :D It was October 2017, and Captain Jack Harkness did a convention in Auckland! I got his autograph! Twice!! One appears below, and in the Barrowman page. He sang too, and the video of that is below too: Me again. So, a brief thought about Doctor Who.
I'm a Doctor Who fan. When I discovered the show in 2005 slowly began to devour as much as i could. I bought the audio CDs too. Among them was Doctor Who and the Pescatons. Its a nice little story, but short. So its CD release contained an additional CD, with an interview of Lis Sladen. On it she mentioned a memorable encounter with a Whovian who said that the show had helped them through a difficult period in their life. This particular anecdote was rather powerful. I tried to empathise with that fan. I loved Doctor Who, but at the end of the day its just a tv show (with associated books and audio etc). Yeah, its important, but I couldn't say that it had helped me survive a tough period. A few years ago I went back to university to study biology. Prior to this, I did not have many real life friends. At school I had friends, but that was at school. Once the bell rang I didn't see them. Then I went off to university for an arts degree. Again I had some friends in my class, sometimes we'd hang out in-between classes! But that was it. Then my arts days was over. A year and a half later i disappeared to Asia for five months. Then another half year of isolation before the biology study started. Suddenly I had friends! My little collection of friends began to expand. More friends!! We'd regularly hang out together in between classes. We'd work on assignments together. We'd meet up for dinner after uni, or have a meet up on the weekends. They were friends that I could tag in funny memes on facebook. Life was great! And i didn't really notice it, but Doctor Who was slowly fading away into the background. The science life is over now. I handed in my thesis to be marked late last year. In February this year I handed in the hard copy of it. Last month i graduated. And its the same with my friends. Their university lives are over, and are now getting on with the next chapters of their lives. Getting jobs, finding love, moving cities..... I feel almost like the good times are over. We still meet up, but its becoming less frequent, with less of the gang being able to make it :/ I feel like this golden age is over. I'm slowly returning to my isolated, alone state. And its painful. So back to the beginning. I look back to me before the good times, and how much I enjoyed Doctor Who. Watching it. Listening to it. Reading it. Going online to hear rumours and speculate. And now I realise just how much this show and my love for it did help me all those years ago when I was isolated and alone. Thank you Doctor Who. You were a life saver. Kia ora. Sorry for not posting in almost two years. Time has really flown by. I didn't have much time to tend to this site. Sorry. I was doing a MSc whilst working part time. But thats all over now, so hopefully i can make more frequent updates now. But hopefully You the Blog Reader are doing well :)
Last year i posted a story on mixital. it was about Jon Pertwee teaching at Coal Hill School. I finally uploaded it onto this site. Read it there ------> Getting the best of all worlds

Holy Moses! It's now July! The year has gone fast. Semester at uni is over. Hopefully grades will be ok. The latest series of Doctor Who is finished too. It was a good series. I liked the Monks trilogy the most. Extremis was superb! Also was happy to see the return of Alpha Centauri <3 <3 <3 If you like Alpha Centauri too then check out some of my fan fiction that features Alpha! Link Life has been interesting. Today I went to Muriwai. I think I may have posted pictures from there before (back in 2014). There is a gannet colony. They're cool birds that migrate between New Zealand and Australia. Amazing achievement. Last night Dame Jane Goodall did a talk here in Auckland. She was incredible! Funny, thought-provoking and a wonderful human being. Also went to Eden Park last month to watch the Blues defeat the British and Irish Lions. and a reminder now that my twitter is now @kereru_kade :) I haven't posted since October. Wow! Time flies. Sorry 'bout that. Been busy. So semester ended last year. Did exam, then worked a lot in a shop over the summer. Then the new semester starts, still working four days a week and trying to keep up with four post-grad papers. It's crazy! Haven't had much time to watch Doctor Who or worship the holy recipe book. Let's see if I can describe how life has been in the last half year.
Grades for last semster were B+, B+, A- & A. Ima happy with that. The day after my only exam there was a wrestling show here featuring some stars of New Japan and ROH. I got to meet Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks and Dalton Castle!!!!!! Incredible. Best match was Omega/Bucks V Okada/RPG Vice. Then came work. Lotsa shifts over christmas, then understaffed in the New Year meant too many shifts :( But I still had time to have great adventures with friends. Went to several different waterfalls. Hunua Falls were pretty cool. And great times at the beach. Also had time to go to a cricket match. New Zealand V Australia. NZ's batting was ok. A satisfactory total, but shouldn't have been good enough. But then we took lots of Aussie wickets. So it looked like the heroic NZers were going to win. But then Stoinis the Aussie batting magnificently, and got the convicts so close to victory. But fortunately NZ was able to get the win :D Then uni restarted. Assignments assignments assignments. The worst of it is over, i think. Just three weeks to go. Workload over the next three weeks isn't too intense. And we got a new staff member at work so will be having less hours there. And you may have noticed @SabalomG isn't tweeting on twitter anymore. I've switched to @kereru_kade and made it more sciencey. Anyway, here's some pics from the last few months: It's been a while since my last post. Saw it and noticed that i mentioned writing a mediocre literature review thing for one of my papers. It got 70%!! So it wasn't too bad. Well below class average, but at least it's a B! The semester is over, and am busy studying for one exam. And last week I got to meet some cool people! On Friday the All Blacks did a signing session here in Auckland. I got there nice and early to get a good spot in the line. Unfortunately they were operating a system where people who had bought something from that particular shop got a card which put them in a special line that went first. So I was standing there in a line that wasn't moving for most of the time :( Fortunately, the people running the signing decided that those of us who had been waiting in the non-special line had been waiting the whole time so they let us through too. The All Blacks signing were Kieran Read (captain, 2013 world rugby player of the year and two time Rugby World Cup winner), Israel Dagg (Rugby World Cup winner) and Malakai Fekitoa (in the squad that won the rugby world cup in 2015). Here's a photo of the signatures from Read and Dagg: and that's not all. On the weekend the big geek event of the year happened in Auckland (Armageddon). I went along on Saturday. Christopher Lloyd (Doc Emmett Brown) was there. He was late to his photo session so everybody was standing in line for half an hour before he turned up. But it was worth it. I got to shake his hand. Twice! He said "thanks for coming." I wished him a happy birthday but i don't think he heard me. Then I went and lined up for a photo with James and Oliver Phelps, who are better known as the Weasley Twins!!! They were friendly. Next up was Brutus the Barber Beefcake. He even brought along those shears for the photo. So I have a cool photo where I'm partly holding that! I think I shook his hand too. I got his autograph later in the day. After that, it was a bit of a break, then I got a photo with Karen Fukuhara who played Katana in Suicide Squad. She looks so different without that mask. She was friendly too. At one of the stalls was Bad Luck Fale (the Underboss) who was promoting a wrestling show that's happening in Auckland in November. Just google sakura events to find out about it!! I got a photo and his autograph too. He was friendly too, and he even did the too sweet finger-sign!! I also got a signature from Nichelle Nichols, who was Uhura in Star Trek. She was lovely. She said I had a wonderful name. All in all it was a fantastic couple of days! Another weekend is over :( Another day working in a shop. One customer spoke like a young Frank Spencer. Another tried to put a can of bourbon in his pants. Colleague caught him and kicked him out of the shop. Not literally kicked him, just metaphorically. Another intense week of uni coming up. Gotta finish a review this week. It's to do with reproductive competition in primates. I thought I'd struggle with it, but I've made good progress. I'll easily reach the word limit. It may be shit, but at least it won't be shit AND short.
Oh, and this evening I wrote a short story. It features Alpha Centauri! She's now the President of the Galactic Federation. Wow! The Federation is under attack. Here's the link! Q: Why did Dr Who go to the toilet?
A: Because he had to do a pooh! Hello sexy people! Hello to all the unsexy people too. I wrote another story!! It's called Songbird and it features Garr. I hope you like it
A couple of weeks ago WWE did a show in New Zealand!! Brock didn't come, but I thought it was ok to use Suplex City as the title of this post anyway. Here's how I described the evening on the Jon Pertwee Recipe Book Discussion Forum:
"It began with Apollo Crews defeating Sheamus in an ok match. The crowd chanted you look stupid. Sheamus said New Zealand (said he didn't come all the way to NZ to get insulted) so we cheered that. Then Strowman took on one of the Usos. Meh. New Day then took on Gallows and Anderson. It was Kofi and Xavier. I was sad, as i wanted to hear Big E say oooooooooh Auckland...... . but then, in hte middle of the match oooooooooooooooooh Auckland rang out, and Big E was on the entrance ramp. It distracted Anderson, which got the New Day the victory!! Big E couldn't climb the steps, so must be still suffering from ringpostitis. But still good of him to come down to NZ. Jericho was next. I completely marked out when i heard his music. Everybody did. He cut a wonderful heel promo. But then Finn appeared, and we cheered him too. These two put on a great match. Crowd chanted this is awesome. It really was awesome. Rusev V Titus was a nothing match. Then we had Cena V AJ Styles. I bought a P1 shirt! Both got a great welcome. Crowd was split, but more went for Cena. Everybody was excited to see him. He's the biggest name, and even those that don't like him are excited to see him wrestle. What a change from a few years ago with the you can't wrestle chants and the supposed five moves of doom. These two put on the match of the night. Probably the best match I've seen live. There was another this is awesome chant. Lil' Naitch' was reffing and got knocked down, so the rest of the Club came out and attacked, but Cena got the victory. Sasha defended her title against Charlotte. Everybody was woo-ing. My friend didn't know where the woo came from It was an ok match. I guess Y2J/Balor and Cena/Styles went on too long so it took time away from this match. Same with the next one - Kevin Owens V Sami Zayn. These two matches could have torn the house down but they didn't have enough time. Zayn and Owens still went pretty good. Rollins V Reigns was the main event, and it went better than i thought it did. crowd chanted this is awesome again, but that was an exaggeration. It was good, but not good enough for a chant. All in all, a fantastic evening! Really enjoyed it." In further NZ wrestling news, New Japan are doing a show here in November, and NXT are here in December. And Doctor Who news? what is there to report? The new series is still half a year away. The Jon Pertwee thread on gallibase is pretty quiet. I dunno. I did another short story - Don't Stop Believin'. And here are some photos from the WWE live event: Sorry for not posting for ages, though y'all probably didn't even notice. Maybe you were happy that I stopped posting my drivel. But I've written another story. Curse of the Piwakawaka. Piwakawaka is the te reo Maori name for fantail. It's also a lot of fun to say. So I had to incorporate it into a title. What else has Comrade Kaled been up to? Not much. Survived another semester of university (good~ish grades, so can't complain). Went to watch the All Blacks beat Wales last month too. Here's a picture from that glorious evening. It's of All Blacks winger Waisake Naholo scoring a try If you are after more crazy fan-fiction, then I recommend that you head over to the fiction section of the Jon Pertwee Recipe Book Discussion Forum. In it, popular prevert Ribs has written a few stellar stories over the last couple of months
Bonjour!
Sorry for not posting much lately. I've decided to do a photo of my rather small pop vinyls collection. It includes C3PO, Rey, Obi Wan and BB-8 from Star Wars, River Song and a Weeping Angel from Doctor Who, and Ric Flair the greatest pro wrestler of all time. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! |
